The community exposure has come around again as the team prepared for the hottest summer that they ever experienced so far in the community. It’s a familiar sight; the ricefields that were once vibrant green turned to golden yellow, with the ground dry that it is almost completely free with puddles of water as plants struggled to live under these tense conditions. Fortunately, the time of harvesting just got over for the farmers, but a series of new activities to be initiated by LSN has just begun. Taking steps to reach their goals for the community has only made it more challenging under the heat.

Team LSN started to teach Rabies control, Hypertension, and Solid Waste management in each purok. There are a total of eight purok meetings that were needed to be covered. Each LSN representatives of each lecture presented their videos to the people who were attending during the meeting of each purok. All attendants ranged from adolescents to old, listened throughout the lectures. But before a start of a lecture, the people answered a pretest to assess their prior knowledge. After a lecture, a posttest was given to assess what they have known so far.

Team leader Arcent Arquiza, supervised the groups to deliver their lectures to the people. This public health education was done to help the people of the community to vaccinate their dogs, be aware of rabies and what to do with a dog bite in an emergency, complications and must-dos with hypertension, and the importance of solid waste segregation.

Engineer Sario, who is a Municipal Environment and Natural Resources officer, paid a visit to the team to give advise on disaster preparedness plan and the establishment of material recovery facility that will serve as collection areas for each purok. The group introduced themselves even to the Sanguniang Bayan in the Municipal of Mahayag in hope that they recognize and support our efforts in bringing awareness of Rabies in Barangay Lower Santo Niño.

Training of blood pressure taking of Barangay health workers was also done to help the community to monitor the BP status for the community health plan on hypertension. It was successful and the BHW now know how to operate the sphygmomanometer and stethoscope.

It was a rocky and scorching third exposure, hopefully the team will go to the next steps of the community health plans. The team may have struggles along the way and their start may be in a slow pace, but with God’s help and their persistence to learn from their mistakes, despite mishap and delays, whether in hot or cold weather, they will get good and meaningful results that will benefit the people of Barangay Lower Santo Niño.
