Making Progress

Barangay Lower Santo Nino is now becoming more active than ever when the medical students started to roll out some important activites this end of 2015. The activites for malnutriton went smoothly without a hitch thanks to the cooperation of the barangay officials, mothers, and their children.

A lot of things were done; Mothers were taught basic knowledge regarding on family planning like breastfeeding, contraception, and others. Height and weight were monitored among the children of their respective puroks. More Importantly, Vitamix, a supplement that provides important vitamins for a child's growth, were distributed among the mothers. These supplements are applied directly on food of the child by a sachet per meal. Since basically there 3 meals in a day, it will be used 3 times.

The preparation of the nutrition center was also done. The medical students along with the barangay officials cleaned the old nutrition center just behind the barangay hall. The repainting of the interior took 2 days which was an enjoyabe experience. If God willing, the nutrition center will become active in the next exposure which will help many mothers and children.

On hypertension, the students monitored for the second reading of the locals for the detection of hypertension using the JNC 7 guidelines. So far, 70+ of people were identified. For the distaster and preparedness program, a new spot map of the barangay was made in order to give an overview of flood prone areas and established evacuation routes which are very important. In the future, The barangay will start constructing the modified MRFs after the delivery of barrels from the air force are settled.

Hopefully, more activites will be done not only by the students themselves but y the people of the barangay.
